What is a Lip Flip?
A lip flip is a non-surgical treatment that uses neurotoxins to make the lips look fuller. Neurotoxins like Botox and Dysport are a type of botulinum toxin injectable that, when injected into specific muscles at the corners of the mouth and edges of the upper lip, will make the upper lip flip up, giving the appearance of a fuller lip.
Candidates for a Lip Flip
Ideal candidates for a lip flip are those who are generally healthy, are nonsmokers, and have realistic expectations. It’s also for patients who aren’t able or willing to have surgical procedures (lip augmentation) and/or not interested in lip fillers. Those with gummy smiles, thin upper lips, or those looking for a more defined, voluminous upper lip are also perfect candidates for this procedure.
Lip Flip Treatment
The lip flip treatment is very straightforward and typically takes only 10-20 minutes. To start treatment, your provider will use a thin needle to inject the specific neurotoxin into specific parts of the upper lip. We typically use 4-6 units, and once all the injections are done, you can go back to your normal routine immediately.
Lip Flip Recovery and Aftercare
After your lip flip, you will likely have redness and swelling, but those side effects typically last anywhere from a few hours to a day or two. As you recover, you can apply an ice pack to your lips for 10 minutes at a time, but you’ll want to avoid applying cosmetics and putting pressure on your lips. You should also limit your level of strenuous activity for 24-48 hours.
Lip Flip Results
You will start to see initial results a week after treatment, with full results appearing after two weeks. You will notice your upper lip looks fuller, and those results can last for 6-8 weeks. Retreatment will be necessary to maintain your results.
